Your application consists of an online form and includes your CV, motivation letter and recommendation letter. The YES selection committee reviews the applications and selects the YES participants within 5 days after the deadline(s). Places are limited (early application strongly recommended). The selection process competitive and the committee will select a group with diverse backgrounds (country of origin, field of study, gender). There is a waiting list for places that may open up at a later stage. Unsuccessful applicants are very welcome to apply for future labs.

To be eligible for YES you are an enrolled student at a university and/or you have early-career experience in industries, businesses, professional associations, think-tanks, public administrations, academic institutions, international organizations, and NGO. You are between 21 and 34 years old and proficient in English.
You show a high dedication to sustainability, you have a strong interest in interdisciplinary collaboration and intercultural exchange, and you are eager to share your skills and expertise in the YES lab and with the YES Alumni community.
We expect you to attend the entire lab according to the respective dates published. The YES labs are very intensive: Usually, there is no time for activities outside the schedule. Participants who wish to do additional sight-seeing or travelling in the lab country are encouraged to make their own plans before or after the lab.
Participants frequently receive ECTS points at their home institution (European Credit Transfer System) for their YES participation. The workload is equivalent to 3-6 ECTS points depending on the lab. Ask the respective units or your professor at your university for recognition. YES participants get a lab certificate with a detailed summary of working hours and content at the end of the lab.
The participation fees vary between the labs. Please check the lab calls for exact details.
The participation fee is subsidized by the YES partners. It covers lodging (usually rooms of 2), full board, local transfer from a central meeting point to the lab venue, the high-quality experts and facilitators, all program activities including excursions and entrance fees, lab documents and materials, and the YES Alumni community membership; all of which are arranged by the course organizers.
You are responsible for paying and organizing your visa (if required – start process at least 4 months before lab), your health and travel insurance (mandatory), your international or domestic travel to the respective meeting point for the lab, and any additional activity outside the lab program.
Tuition fee scholarships
The program is heavily subsidized, allowing us to offer the lab at a fee much lower than the effective cost. In addition, a limited number of partial and full participation fee scholarships are available (merit-based and need-based).
There are no travel scholarships available.
As a general rule, YES participants are encouraged to seek support for their travel and participation cost from their universities or from sponsors. In the past most participants have been successful securing the necessary funding from foundations, corporations, their university or professional associations in their region. Many universities have lists of institutions that support study travel on their webpages. Ask the student service or international office at your university whether they have similar lists. Supporting material on YES on behalf of potential sponsors available upon request.
